This Museum is dedicated to the ancient sailing traditions of this Region: sailors coming from Ilhavo have always been present on Portuguese ships. 

Il Museo è dedicato alle antiche tradizioni marittime di questa regione: marinai provenienti da Ilhavosono sempre stati presenti sulle navi Portoghesi. 

An interesting section regards the history of cod fishing in Northern Atlantic since the XVI Century, and give particular relief to the lugre, the typical fishing boat, and to the Terranova Banks fishery. 
The remarkable collection of ex-voto (votive offering paintings), is particularly suggestive, and give a vivid impression of the tough life of fishermen.  

Una interessante sezione è dedicata alla pesca del merluzzo nel Nord Atlantico a partire dal XVI Secolo, e dà particolare rilievo al lugre, la tipica barca da merluzzi, ed alla pesca sui Banchi di Terranova. 
La norevole collezione di ex-voto è particolarmente suggestiva, e fornisce una vivida impressione della dura vita dei pescatori.
