The Aegean Maritime Museum is hosted in a traditional style building that was the house of an ancient sailor; it was founded to illustrate Greek maritime history, tradition and culture.

The collections include models of historical vessels, ancient documents and maps, drawings, navigation instruments, carpenter tools, ancient anchors, figure-heads and several Fresnel lenses (the optical component of the light) coming from old light-houses. One of the most characteristic features of the Museum is a collection of ancient coins with maritime subjects (V Century B.C. to V Century A.D.)  

Le collezioni includono modelli di navi storiche, antichi documenti e mappe, disegni, strumenti di navigazione, attrezzi da carpenteria, ancore antiche, polene e diverse Lenti di Fresnel (la componente ottica dei fari) provenienti da vecchi fari. Una delle collezioni più interessanti del museo è rappresentata da un gran numero di monete antiche coniate con soggetti marini (dal V Secolo A.C. al V Secolo D.C.)
