The Maritime Museum in Dubrovnik (the ancient Ragusa) is hosted in the beatiful St.John Fortress, and is dedicated to maritime history and tradition. Wrecks of the IV to IX Century A.D. have been discovered in the proximity of Dubrovnik, and there are documents of the XII and XIV Century A.D. that testify a rich naval activity in Ragusa, with some 120 vessels and 3000 sailors. During XVI Century A.D. Ragusa was a free Republic, rival of Venice in the southern Adriatic, and extending its commercial Consulates all over the world. 

Il Museo Marittimo di Dubrovnik (l'antica Ragusa) è ospitato in alcune sale della bellissima Fortezza di San Giovanni, ed è dedicato alla storia ed alla tradizione marittima. Relitti datati tra il IV ed il IX Secolo  sono stati scoperti presso Dubrovnik, e ci sono documenti che testimoniano una vivacissima attività navale a Ragusa tra il XII ed il XIV Secolo, con circa 120 navi e 3000 marinai. Nel corso del XVI Secolo, Ragusa era una Repubblica indipendente che aveva Consolati commerciali nelle più remore regioni del mondo, e rivaleggiava con Venezia nell'Adriatico meridionale.

The collections of the Museum are rich and precious: maps and paintings, models, navigation instruments, several beautiful ex-voto (votive offering paintings), and an important Archive that collects documents from all the Consulates of the Republic. A remarkable collection of carpenter tools (more than 380 pieces) and four splendid figure-heads complete the exhibition.

Le collezioni del Museo sono ricche e preziose: mappe e dipinti, modelli, strumenti di navigazione, numerosi splendidi ex-voto ed un importante archivio che raccoglie documenti da tutti i Consolati della Repubblica: Una notevole collesione di attrezzi di carpenteria (più di 300 pezzi) e quattro splendide polene completano l'esposizione.
