        Cetacea in Mediterranean Sea
              The Cetacea Sanctuary

.

The sea basin comprised between Ligurian, Tuscan and Corsican coasts receives one of the highest concentration of Whales and Dolphins in the world. It is a privileged area, rich of food, where Cetacea can live and breed. This is also the area where juveniles can be weaned, because they can easily find their food and grow safely.

.

For these reasons, the preservation of this area is of vital importance: an international preserve has been established to protect and to study the Cetacea in Western Mediterranean: THE CETACEA SANCTUARY.

.

In the Sanctuary, many scientists and organizations cooperate to collect data to evaluate with the maximum precision the number of Whales and Dolphins, the distribution of the various Species, their migrations, their habits and behaviour, and to know the characteristics, the importance and the influence of their environment.
