From the simplest models, just a heavy stone with a hole tied to a rough rope, to the cheap, industrially producted lead models that are still the most common feature of all marine archaeological sites, the ancient anchors are far to be just simple tools: efficient, ingenious, often spectacular, they carry the symbols of ancient gods, cultures, hopes and fears - the ancient anchors tell us tales about brave men and their voyages.
